Meet the owner, Jo
Jo is the grower behind JD Plant Farm, a small-scale nursery specialising in beautiful, resilient and climate-suited plants for real Australian gardens. With a background in education and horticulture, she brings a unique understanding of both plants and people, helping customers choose plants that will thrive in their space and suit the way they want to garden. Jo believes gardening should be rewarding, not overwhelming, and carefully selects plants based on three simple principles: they must be resilient, beautiful and beneficial to the environment. Her goal is simple, to grow quality plants and provide the honest advice and guidance people need to create gardens they love.
I’ve always loved growing things. There’s something pretty special about taking a tiny seed or cutting and nurturing it into a healthy plant that will become part of someone’s garden for years to come.
JD Plant Farm was created because I believe choosing plants shouldn’t be complicated or overwhelming. I grow and select plants that are beautiful, resilient and suited to our local conditions — plants that will thrive without creating more work for you.
I’m not interested in selling you a plant that isn’t right for your space. I’d rather give honest advice and help you choose something you’ll love and succeed with.

What We Grow
We specialise in carefully selected plants that are beautiful, resilient and suited to our region, including:

- Low-maintenance flowering perennials
- Ecologically valuable trees and shrubs
Every plant in our nursery has been chosen because we believe it earns its place in a real Australian garden.
What We Don't Grow
We don't grow plants simply because they're fashionable or commonly available.
We avoid:
- Annuals and biennials that require frequent replacement
- High-maintenance or difficult-to-grow plants
- Plants poorly suited to our local climate and conditions
- Plants that create unnecessary work for gardeners
Our focus is helping people succeed, not selling plants that are likely to struggle.
Our Selection Criteria
Before a plant becomes part of JD Plant Farm, we ask:
- Is it hardy and reliable?
- Is it beautiful or genuinely interesting?
- Will it thrive in our region with minimal intervention once established?
- Does it provide ecological value through habitat, food or biodiversity?
- Would we confidently recommend it to our own family and friends?
If the answer isn't yes, it doesn't make the cut.
